Export to another application
You can use Report | Export Report... to save the current report
in one of the following formats:
- HTML. A report exported as a page of HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) can often
be imported into screenwriting software and word processors.
- Plain text. Plain text format is good for importing into screenwriting software,
which can often recognise indentation and other formatting.
- OpenOffice.org Writer. When exported in OpenOffice.org Writer format,
your report retains all the styles and formatting as viewed in the report window.
If you have OpenOffice.org, you can export to RTF, Microsoft Word and other formats.
- Anthemion HelpView. In Anthemion HelpView format, your work is
attractively presented with a contents control on the left and your text on the right.
The format can be read on most types of computer.
You can download the free viewer from http://www.anthemion.co.uk/helpview.
- Microsoft HTML Help. Microsoft HTML Help is a popular format readable on any Windows PC.
To make these files, you will need to download the HTML Help Workshop from Microsoft's site if you
don't have it already.
Most word processors, such as Microsoft Word 97 and above
and StarOffice/OpenOffice, can import HTML files, but
for the best results export using the OpenOffice.org Writer format, and if necessary
save in another format when the file has been loaded into OpenOffice.org Writer. You can also
copy the report to the clipboard with Report | Copy to Clipboard and
paste into another application.
To choose whether to paste as formatted text or plain text,
use the Edit | Paste As... menu command in the other application,
if available.
Using the clipboard may not give results as good as using
file exchange (for example, paragraph style definitions may be lost in transit).
Here are some tips for exporting to packages such as Sophocles and Final Draft.
- Edit your report style to capitalise scene headings (edit the SL Scene Heading
style);
- check 'Enable Scene Auto Heading' in the element styles list;
- switch off all extraneous text such as storyline descriptions, storyline names;
- export to a text file (Reports | Export Report...);
- open or import the file in your screenwriting software.
Note that pasting from the clipboard doesn't generally work as well.
